Feb 25th, 2005 the 1 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (1 RCHA) retired the M-109 Howitzer which has been in use since 1968. Other artillery across Canada already retired theirs, but since 1 RCHA fired the first shot back in 1968, it had the honour of firing the last shot in 2005. The last shot was fired by the same man who fired the first shot, amazingly enough. The M-109 is a self-propelled howitzer, firing 155 mm rounds.

This is the first picture in my series of the best pictures I took.

It's not really a tank. It's classified as a Howitzer. But I agree. It'd help beat rush hour traffic :P

Very intense angle. Guns make me nervous and this shot down the barrel just about does it. ;)

When I was younger, I leapt at the chance
Now that I'm older, I wonder...

If I had it to do all over again
Would I do anything different?

Yep, it’s kind of a cross though the bottom half is that of a tank, but the top turret is for the howitzer.

Thanks :) It's one of my favorite pictures.

Since I'm in the signals core, and not artillery, I couldn't say for sure what the difference is. Possibly it can't be fired on the move, due to the recoil.
:iconmotirer:
Yep, thats right. in WW2 they used tank chassies a lot for things like that.

I agree, the angle at which this was taken is most impressive. Down the barrels shots always allow for intimidation, same as staring into jet engines, or focusing on the tip of a missile. The concentration of power is given not only by the subconscious though tof the destructive potential iof the device but also by the size optical illusion that the angle provides.

In anycase regardless of the mumble i posted above,
Kudos on the shot.

Thanks! I tried getting several different angles the barrel itself, inside, out front, down the barrel from above; and this is one of the shots. I think they all turned out well. I'll be posting the second of the series soon.
